I met Ashely this past Saturday morning while a few of my friends, Frank, and I were volunteering at the World Vision Storehouse up in the Bronx. I like never go up there… (you just take the 6 train all the way up). Then you get off and you are like where the heck am I? There are no numbered streets, no numbered avenues, no points of reference, nothing. And it was completely overcast so I couldn’t even tell where the sun was! (All the tricks I use to figure out where I am in Manhattan.) Luckily someone had directions…

Anyway, I actually had a wonderful time just sorting boxes. Okay sorting boxes of clothes wasn’t that glamorous, but I LOVE volunteering and working for something bigger than myself. Making a difference is so fulfilling. Random retail clothing stores had donated tons and tons of clothing, which we were sorting and sending out to various shelters, etc. We spent the day sorting, labeling, and packing the clothing, which in now ready to be shipped in people in need. I also had the best coffee of my life. Anyway, the point of this post is that Ashley works at Operation Exodus, a program for low-income inner-city children, and she asked me if I would like to volunteer to teach a photography class! So, next Friday, I will be heading back out of my little 20 block comfort radius of Columbus Circle to teach some inner-city high schoolers about photography!!!

My new laptop made it from Shanghi into the hands of my doorman in 43 hours and 46 minutes. holy crap. Could I even make it to Shanghi from the hands of my doorman in 43 hours and 46 minutes???

So today I spent a little more than $5.75 at the Photo Expo, but I got two Pocket Wizards and a new soft box! Yeay!!!

Today was the first day of the Photo Expo. Yes, I feel stupid. It is really great to be in the presence of all of the huge names and to realize that you are not as good as you think you are (haha but it is true) a good dose of humility never hurt anyone. It was also wonderful to see Gary Kirksey (one of my favorite professors from OU) and some other fellow alumnus. Amidst all of the insanity of the day, people running around, demonstrations overlapping, mounds of literature, and almost complete chaos, i managed to meet up with the other OU kids downstairs in the food court where much to my dismay, I found myself shelling out $5.75 for a Snapple and a banana. I think my brain was shot from all the excitement. And I’m going back tomorrow.

I’m back in the city! I flew in last night after two hours of delays (good ‘ole LaGuardia) I love flying into LGA… even though I don’t think I’ve ever had a complete trip in and out without a delay! Frank commented to me, “the traffic going in there is backed-up; why should the airport be any different?!?” haha. Anyway…

I love flying into LGA because the “road” (did you know there are “roads” in the sky that the airplanes fly on? i just found out) So the “road” into LGA flies just to the left of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. It is so beautiful, especially at night. So if you ever fly into LaGuardia, get a window seat on the far left hand side of the plane! It is one of the most beautiful views of the city you will ever see. Enjoy the view, then thank me ; )

This afternoon I was a “visiting professional” to “Ms. Boyt’s” Art Class. (Ms. Boyt is most commonly known as Darci, one of my BFFs from OU) I cannot believe how young all of the high schoolers were! I thought I was so old in high school. Anyway, I tried to make my little 15 minute presentation on careers in photography to a group of high schoolers as relevant as possible. They seemed to be paying attention and actually asked questions! So I gave the 15 minute version twice to Darci’s two Foundations of Art classes, then her Digital Photography class was all mine!!! : ) After the presentation, Darci let me teach a lesson (on reading histograms and creating a masked levels layer). I actually LOVED teaching. It was very rewarding. Hummmmm……

I’m lovin this 24 hour image turn-around… voila some teasers… vote for your fav!

Today is Tiffany & Thomas’s BIG DAY! …………….it is also raining!!!!!!

Is this the end of the world???  Nope. Au contraire– that translates to nice soft lighting from the billowy clouds and vivid colors on those beautiful autumn trees… yeay!!!!!!

i had forgotten how gorgeous this place is in the fall……… or maybe i just appreciate it more?
